Place of Many Little Birds
Entering Uganda, the bus from Kisoro to Kabale winds its way up through dazzling hills, impressively terraced for agriculture from bottom to top. As night falls, the hills disappear into darkness and mist, in part due to power blackouts in the entire area.
In the midst of the hills lies Lake Bunyonyi, a small lake surrounded by the
terraced hillsides, whose shores enclose 29 islands. Its name meaning “Place of Many Little Birds”, small colourful ones will keep you company as you read by the lakeside and large ones will scare you as you walk through the forest.
